Direct Connect

Direct Connect allows you to bypass the Axial Control cloud server and connect direclty to your home computer. For this to work consistently, it requires this:

  • Static IP address from your ISP (or the ability to use a dynamic dns host)
  • Static IP on your Axial Server computer
  • Open port in your home PC's firewall for your direct connect server
  • Forwarded port in your router for your direct connect server

Once you have the above requirements met, you can determine your external IP address by visiting a site such as whatsmyip.org. You'll use that IP address as your host on your phone (or optionally the dynamic dns host if you don't have a static ip).

Direct Connect On Home WiFi Only

This describes how to use your smart device on your home wifi to directly control devices in your Axial Server.

  1. Determine what your Axial Server's local IP address is. One way to find this is:
    1. Click on the Start menu and type cmd. When you see the cmd applications in Start menu panel, click it or just press enter.
    2. A command line window will open. Type ipconfig and press enter
    3. You'll see a bunch of information, but the line you want to look for is "IPv4 Address."
  2. In your Axial mobile app, visit the settings section and specify direct connect. The host or server is the IP address you identified in step 1 above. The port you'll use is 1178.

A few notes about this setup...  this will only work while you are physically connected to the same WiFi network as your Axial Server computer. Additionally, some routers will assign a new IP address to your computer when you reboot it, so you might consider assigning a static IP so the address doesn't change.
